Gold Coast Convention Centre
Project Summary
The Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre located in Surfers Paradise, Australia is a multi-functional building. The building is approximately 190m long by 90m wide with approximately 1300 tonne of primary steel and approximately 150 tonne of light gauge secondary steel were used in its construction. The roof of the arena is made up of 22 trusses of varying heights to form the roof which curves in two directions
Above the trusses are numerous steel rakers which form the Eyebrow architectural feature. This feature uses a light gauge girt system at 600 centres to form the continuous conical curve. Due to the complex geometry, especially at the Eyebrow, BDS were required to work closely with the Architect and through various file transfers developed the final working model.
