Rebar Detailing

Our services include rebar detailing and estimating where we work directly with contractors, installers and engineers.. Our services include: Field Placement/Shop Drawings, 3D Modelling of Rebar, Connection Sketches, Bar Listing, Project Co-ordination Weight and/or Cost Change Tracking and Submitting.

Virtual Construction

We create models with real time computer aided construction simulation resulting in accurate, 3D modelling phases. We are one of the world's largest virtual construction firms and strive to remain our reputation as one of the most innovative companies in the industry. The planning, construction and productions models are all integrated into our Virtual Construction.

Building Information Modelling (BIM)

BDS VirCon is a virtual construction company where BIM processes are a vital part of our construction projects. BIM is a virtual model of a structure which shows the phyisical characteristics of a building. BIM are designed by engineers, architects and surveyors before being handed over to the contractors. BDS VirCon are BIM experts, we invest in the latest technology to consistently be industry leaders in virtual construction.

BDS VirCon is a 50 year global detailing and Building Information Modelling (‘BIM’) firm with offices in four continents specialising in big, complex construction projects requiring high technical competency and large pools of experienced personnel. We have vast BIM and detailing expertise with a demonstrable track-record of major projects with leading companies that include project owners, engineers, EPCM firms, general contractors and fabricators in North America, Europe and Australia.

BDS VirCon consistently invests in research to innovate and develop proprietary technology, workflows and processes. Our models are widely used during construction for clash detection, material take-offs, fabrication, supply chain management, material tracking, model consolidation, construction sequencing, crane reach analysis and an array of virtual construction activities.

BDS VirCon was founded in 1964, today it has an international presence in six countries with robust technology driven processes and a highly skilled and experienced workforce. It underwent a management buyout in 2007 when its key employees acquired stakes in the firm.

BDS VirCon has invested extensively in technology infrastructure with its six offices using ‘best of breed’ software and hardware and a state-of-the-art wide area network. It has also continually invested in innovation to develop proprietary technology, workflows, and processes that are critical to delivering efficiency and innovative solutions.

Over its 50 year history BDS VirCon has gained vast experience over numerous iconic projects working with owners, engineers, fabricators, general contractors and EPCM firms. Its vast track record and its ongoing investment in research have given it unrivalled capability to deliver innovative Building Information Modelling and Detailing services for challenging projects.

Connection Design

Engineering and design firms traditionally use 3-D analytical and modelling tools to design, from which they deliver 2-D engineering drawings to the fabricator, who then engages modellers and detailers to create the detailed model to LOD 400 specifications.

This process frequently becomes convoluted and inefficient when the engineering drawings are either incomplete or require revisions, often adversely impacting the project.

With the broader adoption of the Integrated Project Delivery (“IPD”) methodologies there is a growing trend of engaging modellers and detailers early, to work collaboratively with the engineers. Through this revised workflow called Construction Modelling (also known as Pre Detailing), BDS VirCon imports either the analysis or engineering models (~LOD 200) digitally from the engineer and works collaboratively to resolve engineering/design issues to produce a model to ~LOD 400 specifications.

We have used this workflow on numerous projects with prominent firms and refined the process to deliver superior outcomes by compressing schedule, reducing wastage and mitigating risk through:

  • Early detection of design and engineering issues and minimising RFIs, holds, design changes.
  • Reduced engineering documentation, eliminating re-entry and recreation of drawings; with engineering and fabrication drawings generated from the one model.
  • Transparency and efficiency in procuring fabrication.
  • Early creation of the detailed model facilitating its wider use for construction BIM.

BDS VirCon offers the benefit of vast experience of working to various industry standards for Steel and Rebar modelling and detailing with leading fabricators. Our models are typically built to LOD 400 specifications producing a wide range of deliverables for fabrication, and construction. What differentiates BDS VirCon is:

  • All our projects are managed by highly experienced project managers located either in the USA, UK, Australia or New Zealand; they all have a minimum 15 years of experience.
  • Large capacity with hundreds of staff spread across six countries connected through a wide area network that facilitates work sharing and close project monitoring across our offices.
  • Industry leading software and hardware platforms and proprietary technology linking the model to a relational database to facilitate a multitude of BIM and tracking applications.
  • Tractability of design changes and RFIs as they are embedded in the model.

Model Coordination BDS VirCon offers the benefit of immense model coordination expertise having worked with clients ranging from owners, engineers, general contractors, fabricators and EPCM firms where our roles have varied from modelling, detailing, model coordination and also animation.

From this we have gained in-depth experience of working with various software platforms and file formats which are critical to building a consolidated BIM model.

What differentiates BDS VirCon is:

  • Experience and exposure to various software platforms and file formats with a thorough understanding of their compatibility and interoperability.
  • Experience on large complex projects which often stretch technology boundaries.
  • Ability to manoeuvre and manipulate files to produce a detailed model of a manageable file size.
  • High-end hardware platforms and access to the latest technology.

BDS VirCon provides connection design services through its strategic partnerships with select engineering and connection design firms.

These long-standing alliances have been seasoned over numerous projects enabling us to provide a seamless one-stop shop execution of modelling, detailing and connection design in every state of the United States of America and Canada.
